the friend zone myth

Hey guys! Today's little thought is on the "friend zone" an increasingly popular phrase. The friend zone is the idea that (usually) a woman rejects a man because they are too close friends. The way this is used, often blames woman for rejecting men they do not want to be with, and is used as a way of making women feel guilty for their decision. Men complain they are "too far in the friend zone" that they cannot have sex or be in a relationship with this woman. It is often stated that women ignore these "nice men" and go for the jerk.

The friend zone acts as a way of controlling women. It is used as a way of making women feel guilty or blaming them for the fact they do not want to be with a particular man. There is no such thing as the friend zone. Women are attracted to who they are attracted too no matter weather you are friends with them or not. The friend zone gives the impression that the only reason men are friends or are nice to women, is so that they can have sex with her, spending time with a woman is seen a an investment and if it doesn't pay off they are in the friend zone. It takes away the idea that men are simply friends with woman because they want to be, because they like the idea of simple friendship and instead want something more.

By using this many women feel hurt, someone they thought was their friend, was actually using them for something more and when, unsurprisingly, it turns out the woman does not want to be more than the original friendship, these men make a deal of it and say they are in a mythical place called the friend zone. It is not a friend zone, its just an excuse for them not to face the reality that a woman simply does not want to be with you.

People who believe in the friend zone, belief that if you are nice to a woman, she owes you something, that somehow she owes it to you to be in a relationship with you or have sex with you. As if it is that mans right to be in a relationship with a woman, which take away a woman's right to choose who she wants to be with. This can actually lead to woman being in danger, recently when some men have been rejected, they have killed these women, or even gone on a killing spree, killing lots of innocent woman for the simple fact that one woman did not have an attraction towards them.

If you want to read more on why the frienzone is a myth and is used to control woman, see this artical here

The accident season review

Hey guys! On monday i was sent a new book called The Accident Season to read and review, writen by a half Irish half French author called Moira Fowley-Doyle. I of course read it immediately and finished it within two days. You can see the trailer for the book here. The premise of the book, is set around a girl and her family in Ireland, who every year in October are the victims of misfortune and bad luck. The accident season is unlike any book I have read before. It is both dark and colourful at the same time, there is a dark secret but the characters seem very colourful and the world as described by Cara is very beautiful. In fact the whole book is very beautifully written, with fantastic description.

It is a strange book, and there are many interpretations of it. There is not one straight answer or conclusion but provides many different leads and leaves the reader to decide for themselves what is the truth.

I liked the characters within the book too, some of them leapt of the page for me more than others. Bea was probably my favourite character in the novel, she was the one that made me laugh the most. For me, Sam didn't quite lift of the page for me unlike the other characters somehow. Elsie was haunting and mystifying and Alice irritated me somewhat but had suffered a lot. I couldn't quite picture Cara, but i sympathised with her.

The love within the book was not too overpowering either which is good. If you read my book reviews often, you will know i dislike novels where the love overtakes the action in the novel, and the characters are "blinded." I felt as though the plot was not overtaken by the love within the book although because of the strange circumstances in which the love interest of Caras arises, i think many readers will be confused as to what they think, whether Cara should listen to her hear or not.

Overall, i really enjoyed this book, it was different to any book amd definitley written very beautifully. I wanted to read it aloud so i didnt miss any of the colourful imaginings. I would give this book 4/5 and you can buy the book here

Have you read this? What did you think?

loving youself

Hey guys! Todays little thought is on something that is quite personal to me. Something i struggle with and i believe a lot of people struggle with is being able to love yourself. When we are asked what we love, the answer of "me" is probably not one which comes to your mind instantly, if at all. I have struggled a lot with "loving myself" in the past. When i was younger i suffered from acne when not many of my classmates did, then as i got older i had to come to terms with my IBS and then I started to struggle with my weight. I think that because of the pressure young teenagers experience, to look and be a certien way we grow up with expectations which are hard, nay impossibe to reach.

For some of us, loving ourselves can come easy, but for some, me included it is something we have to work on. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that we are loved and amazing the way we are. I suggest little post it notes stuck around, maybe one on a mirror or closet where you look every day. Taking time to give yourself treats, have an at home spa day with your friends, or a film and junk food night.

Your body is yours. Its important to treat it right with things you need such as water and exercise. Never feel pressured to use your body in a certain way either, its yours not someone else's and by reminding yourself of this it can be the first step to loving yourself.

Remind yourself of your achivements, all those cetificats your parents kept, even the dolphin swimming ones, you did that and that is an achivement. Dont compare youre achivements to someone elses. This is a massive step in loving yourself, do not measure yourself against someone else. Focus on your own goals and your own strengths and not someone else's.

I know its hard but i know we can all work on it! Everyday i want you to tweet something positive about yourself and tag it #littlepositivethoughts so that we can all see and read them making a community of positivity!
Lots of love

MUA Undressed and Undress me too review

Hey guys! Today I am doing a beauty review of two eye-shadow pallets by MUA. These eye shadow pallats are famously known for being replicas of the naked and naked 2 pallets by urban decay, but at the very low price of just four pounds for each pallet. I have been using these pallets practically every day, they are my stable eye- shadows because there are so many looks you can create with them.

Here is "Undressed" swatches:
As you can see, some of the colours do not come out well, for example shade 3 and 5 are two matte colours, and neither of them are particularly and I do not use these very often as they basically make no difference. However the darker colours often come out better and the bottom row are all colours that I use regularly.

Here is "Undress me too" swatches:
Once again, there are some colours that are so weak you can barley see them, shades 1 (naked) and 3 (shy) are so light I don't use them. I also find that shades 2 (Devotion) and 4 (Fiery) are too similar to pull apart. Shade 5 (lavish) took me quite a long time to get the colour you can see on my hand too. Shade 8 (exposed) gets a lot more colour on the eye than on my hand and I love paring this with the lighter grey next to it (Reveal) and the black at the end (Corrupt,)

I cannot compare these to the naked pallets, however I would imagine that this one is less pigmented in a lot of colours but the colours themselves are very similar. I believe despite the few colours that are very weak, they are worth spending four pounds on for everyday eye shadows as they are cheap and overall are good eyeshadows.

Being different

Hey guys! Hope you are all doing okay! Today's little thought is all about celebrating your differences and what makes you different to other people. I found this quote which sums up what I mean
Everyone has differences, different looks, different characteristics ect. Often the media bombard us with the idea of an "ideal" person from a young age, and often this pretence that we have to live up to a certain way often follows us throughout our lives. What makes it harder, is that this is physically and literally impossible. We cannot all be this idea of a "perfect" person ie look the ideal way act the ideal way because as I said above, we are all different. And this is just a reminder that that is okay. In fact, its amazing. The idea of what is ideal is socially constructed, it does not exist. A life full of the same people would be boring, it is boring, the "ideal person" is boring. Everyone has differences and that is really awesome, people have different strengths and weaknesses and that means people are better suited to one thing and not other things and that's okay. That's how life keeps running. You may be bad at English but really good at maths. Or you may be shocking at art but really good at music or be a really kind and that's really cool too.

We all look different too, some of us are tall, short, in between. Blonde haired, brown haired, red haired, black haired, no haired. All of these are awesome, none is worse than the other. There is no such thins as a "bad body" or a "good body" they are just bodies and all are as amazing as the other. Whether they are larger, smaller, whether some parts don't seem to work like other peoples do, they're still bodies, and they're still really cool. It's okay not to look a certain way or not to fit into a socially determined category. It doesn't mean we should look down on people who do seem to fit this "ideal person" it just means that instead of comparing ourselves and measuring our worth against this, we should instead realise that different does not mean bad.

Blogger interviews #3- Mycrazybeautyjourney

Hey guys! Meet Chloe, the writer of My Crazy Beauty Journey which you can find here. Chloe is absolutely lovely and writes a predominantly beauty blog which I adore. As you guys know I write my little thought posts and Chloe often touches upon body image in her posts too which I love and I know you guys will love.

1) Where did the name behind your blog come from?
Well I did originally have a blog which I can't remember the name for it anymore. Then I decided that I didn't like that blog because I wasn't really blogging about what I loved which is beauty. After much consideration and a blogger friend I came up with the name 'My Crazy Beauty Journey', that still remains my blogger domain which I'm hopefully soon going to change, but I decided on 'My Crazy Beauty Journey'  because it was the period in my life when I started to really get into beauty. Now my blog is literally just called 'Chloe Marie' because that's my first and middle name.

2) Why did you decide/ what inspired you to start blogging?
This is going to be so cliché but I had the inspirations like Zoella and fell in love with her blog. She seemed to have so much fun doing what she loved and I had been contemplating started a blog but I think that Zoe gave me quite a big push on the idea.

3) What are you most looking forward too this summer?
I knew the answer to this question as soon as I read this question. Even though I'm not quite on my Summer holidays just yet I still class June as Summer because you know, it is. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing my family this Summer. I've already been up to Skelmersdale for my Aunt's 70th and then in August I'm going to be going down Essex way for an annual family barbecue which I'm really looking forward to. You'll have to keep your eyes peeled on my blog during August for an OOTD because the outfit I've ordered is to die for! I feel like I belong at Coachella but with less mud.

4) What type songs are you particularly loving at the moment?
How can this seriously be a question?! They're just too many songs! I'm really liking a lot of the old songs at the minute, like the ones that aren't from this year. I'm really liking Valerie by Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse at the minute, she was just amazing and it kind of makes me sad knowing that she isn't with us anymore. Also, I'm absolutely obsessed with Carrie Underwood at the minute. Turn on Two Black Cadillacs or Before He Cheats and I'm there singing along. You can also never go wrong with a bit of Disney especially a bit of Frozen! Ooo I almost forgot Collabro are like one of my faves, I probably sound like an old woman but I just love them; I'm especially loving All I Want from they're new album, Act Two. Too. Many. Songs. To. Pick. From

5) What type of things do you blog about?
I do a lot of blogging about beauty, fashion and lifestyle. I love that no one can really tell me what to do on my blog because it's my blog. I have a little series called Tea Talk which is where I discuss issue I want to talk about, if you pop over to my blog comment a topic on one of the tea talks and I might pick your topic to write about. I don't do as many fashion posts because most of the time I'm either in jeans, leggings or pyjama bottoms so you know I don't think that blogging about how I style my reindeer pyjamas would be too exciting.

6) Do you have any favourite bloggers? If so who and why?
Obviously I love all the bigger bloggers because you know they're all like goals but I recently did a blog post of 5 bloggers that I'm loving so you can go check that out if you want. However, I like to change ever five minutes between one blogger and the other but I think that there's so many new smaller bloggers it's hard to pick a favourite.

7) What is your most embarrasing moment (that you are willing to share;) )?
I know hands down what this is and it's quite a recent moment. It's both painful and embarrassing. Basically I was dancing around like an idiot to Billy Elliot as you do before you go and watch Pitch Perfect 2 with your best friend. Anyway, I was leaping and as I leapt I landed awkwardly and fell on my ankle which has landed me on crutches which I'm not so happy about. The most embarrassing part about this whole ordeal is that my little sister was recording me and the time and has video evidence of when it happened so you know I don't plan on dancing in front of my little sister anytime soon.

8) Why is blogging important to you?
Blogging is important to me because it gives me somewhere to escape to. How cliché am I but it's serious. If I'm getting really stressed I'll just log onto blogger and finish writing my newest blog post or I can edit photos or plan blog posts. I just love writing and giving something back to people. Also, blogging is important to me because it's given me the opportunity to talk to some amazing people who I think are always going to be in my life even if I never meet them I know that they're only a computer screen away

9) What would your dream job be?
I've had the same dream job for around ten years now. I've always gone back and forth between two professions. Either being in the medical profession or being an author. I don't think I could be in the medical profession because I'd just be crying constantly, I'm a wreck but I really love writing with a passion. I always have and probably always will, I think that's why I blog. I'd definitely love to be an author because I'd just love to come up with my own characters with their own fates and storylines

10) A random fact about yourself?
A random fact about myself...A random fact about myself...Hmm this is hard. Ooo I've got one, it's not very interesting but it's still a random fact. Even though I've been to the hospital about a hundred times I've never actually broken a bone. Soft tissue damage? Yes. Bad sprains? Yes. Damaged ligaments? Yes. Crutches? Yes. But never a broken bone.

I hope you enoyed reading this! Remember to go and look at Chloe's blog, I love it and I know you will too!

If you want to be interviewed by me about your blog, please comment with your emails or email me at smitheh01@gmail.com!
Lots of love

A book tag

Hey guys! Today I thought I would do a book tag! I am an avid reader and I feel as though I do not do enough "book" posts on my blog. As you can see at the side of this blog I am currently reading the girl who kicked the hornets nest which I have been reading for ages due to having a large break as a result of having to concentrate purely on exams for a while. This tag is taken from a mixture of questions I have seen in various tags. I could not find one single one that I liked so i combined questions from a few different ones!

1) Do you get sick when reading in the car?
Yes! I always do, I cannot read in the car for any length of time. Doing anything apart from listening to music makes me feel sick.

2) Harry Potter series or Twilight series? Provide three reasons for your answer.
For me it is Harry Potter. This is because I grew up reading these books as a young child whereas I was older before twilight came out. I have never read the whole series of twilight but I have read the Harry Potter series many times and finally love irritates me in books and there is a good amount of action to love ratio in Harry Potter whereas I think there is too much in Twilight.

3) What is the thinnest book on your book shelf?
Perhaps Catcher in the Rye

4) What is the thickest book on your book shelf?
The Lord of the Rings trilogy which I have in one very large book.

5) Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself becoming an author?
I do! I start many books but I always stop and never compleate them. I have been writing my own stories since i was very little, infact I have a large book full of my three year old- ten year old self full of little stories I wrote. I would love to write for a living however I have to be realistic and as of yet I have not found a story line that I feel so passionate about that I finish it. I come up with so many story lines all the time, I just cannot get them down as I imagine them. I often think I would be better at directing and writing a film than a book.

6) When did you get into reading?
I don't remember a time I didn't love reading. It seems to have always been apart of my life, I used to devour books as a child and i still do. My bed used to be next to my windowsill and one of my fondest memories is having a large stack of books on there and every time my mum went downstairs after saying goodnight, I would quickly get onto my windowsill and read using the last remaining sunlight until it was too dark or I got told off!

7) What is your favourite classic book?
I already mentioned this but Catcher in the Rye is such a massive favourite of mine. My favourite classic children book is the Secret Garden, I got a copy of it this Christmas in a gorgeous edition and it is one of my prized possessions.

8) Full on romance books or action packed books with a few romance scenes put in?
Again I already talked about this but it has to be action packed. I hate romance books I'm sorry but I always have, i find them boring they're really not my cup of tea. I love a book that has lots of action.

9) Can you stop reading anytime you want or do you have to have a certian page/chapter/part?
Normally I stop at anytime but recently while reading the Miliemian trilogy I have been making sure I finish at a chapter. This is mainly because I have been having large gaps in between each time i read and it's easier to pick up again a few days later! Also the chapters are just so large in them!

10) One book at a time or several at once?
One book! I hate reading a few books at once!

11) Read ahead or skip pages?
Depends! If it's really exciting and I'm worried for the charaters I usually skip a few pages to make sure everything is okay before I go back and continue reading! I never read the end though beforehand, my mum does that but I just can't.

12) Do you write in books?
Occasionally! If there is a quote I like sometimes I will underline it but very rarely. I write in texts I am studying however!

I hope you enjoyed this, I really enjoyed doing it. Feel free to do this if you like and comment the post to me so I can see your answers!
Lots of Love
